In 2020, the vessel Remøybuen was handed over from Vard Langsten to Remøybuen AS in Fosnavåg, with a design of type WM28 developed by us at West Maritime.
Remøybuen is a combination vessel for both longline and Danish seine, accommodating 11 persons on board. The project faced several challenges along the way: the construction of the hull in Romania was significantly delayed, and Vard Aukra — originally designated to outfit the vessel — was shut down during the process. The final completion was adjusted and carried out at Vard Langsten in Tomrefjord.
Despite the challenges, Remøybuen was delivered as a sturdy build that skipper and co-owner Vegard Kvalsvik described as “truly solid work.” The transition from previous smaller vessels to this one was described as immense, particularly in terms of comfort and functionality. Local expertise was extensively involved: many supplies came from subcontractors in Møre og Romsdal.
The vessel was christened on June 27 at Almenningskaia in Fosnavåg, with Gerd Rødset as the godmother – she is married to shipowner Hans Remøy.
In terms of technical data:
Length overall: 27.99 m
Beam: 9.50 m
Depth to main deck: 4.50 m
Depth to starboard deck: 6.90 m
Freezer hold: 220 m³
Among the equipment it was outfitted with:
Main engine: Yanmar 6EY17W (749 kW)
Gear and propeller system from Nogva Heimdal Propulsion
Electric winches and seine drums from Seaonics
Freezing and processing line from MMC First Process
Various electrical installations, navigation, and communication from suppliers such as Moltech, Vard Electro, Brattvåg Electro, and others
Remøybuen is an example of complexity and collaboration in maritime supply chains, demonstrating how we combine design expertise with the coordination of high-tech supplies and local adaptation.
